In Victoria's North Park neighbourhood, a nonprofit is testing a different approach. MakeSpace, operated by the MakeSpace for Art Society, launched in July 2025 as the city's first community-driven creative manufacturing hub, bringing together a community cafe (North Perk), digital fabrication lab (FabLab), and a WoodShop (opening mid-April 2026) under one roof to support neighbourhood-scale economic participation.
