Community leaders from the Saanich Peninsula - politicians, businessmen, police and more - joined members of the Tsawout First Nation at TIXEN, or Cordova Spit, on Mon., April 23 for a Blanket Ceremony. Blankets and the people upon them, represent Indigenous land and peoples, affected by settlement by Europeans and others. the blankets grow smaller under colonial policies of Canada - and the people diminish as the history of the treatment of Indigenous people is recounted. The event is a learning experience and a part of reconciliation efforts between communities.
