George Myren and his wife Rolande Garside of Central Saanich were dining with friends in Sidney March 15, when Myren had a cardiac arrest. Former Sidney fire fighter Ken White happened to be there, and rushed to his aid, using the CPR skills he knew from his days as a first responder. White's actions, and that of paramedics and local fire fighters, helped save Myren's life.
Myren had surgery in Victoria on March 18 and, with a new pacemaker, was able to return home March 19.
